Annually, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Australian Government, offers Australia Awards Scholarships to students from developing countries to pursue their undergraduate or postgraduate studies at Australian Universities.

These scholarships aim to help international students from developing countries to achieve their academic dreams and promote a healthy relationship between Australia and eligible countries. Benefits of Australia Awards Scholarships 

There are lots of benefits attached to the Australia Awards Scholarships. Some of these benefits are:

  1. Full tuition fees will be paid.
  2. Travel ticket costs will be paid for.
  3. A one-time establishment allowance is paid immediately after you arrive in Australia to cater for the initial expenses like buying a laptop, rental deposits, etc.

  3. You must not be a citizen of Australia.
  4. You must not be a military personnel.
  5. Your spouse or fiancé(e) must not hold Australian citizenship when applying for the scholarship.
  6. If you are a resident of Cook Islands, Niue, and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship, you are eligible to apply but you must apply for a Student visa.

  8. You must not apply for the Australia Awards Scholarships if you have previously received a long-term Australia Award. You can only apply if you have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time that you were in Australia.

How to Apply for Australia Awards Scholarships

To apply for the Australian Awards Scholarships, you will have to:

  1. Check the opening and closing dates for your country if your country is eligible.
  2. Make sure to read the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook before you apply.
  3. Visit the link to the application portal online and answer the questions on the questionnaire that will be established for you after you register.
  4. You will be given a password that is only meant for you, a unique registration number, and a username.
  5. Don't submit your application immediately so that you can update it if there is a need. Submit your application some days before the closing date.
  6.  Remember to read all the instructions carefully before filling out the application form. Once submitted, you cannot make any changes.
  7. For those applying by mail, ensure to check your country's profile for contact details. You will need to get a hardcopy application form. Make sure you submit the hardcopy application form before the deadline.
